DVD vs. VHS

Here's a 720 x 480 screen capture from the DVD. It looks squished because it's an anmorphic (widescreen) picture:

The same frame, from the VHS tape at 640 x 480:

Even though these images are the same height, VHS has less than half the vertical resolution of DVDs. VHS also has poorer color saturation and the higher contrast causes subtle details to be lost. There's also a lot more noise in the VHS picture, which is most apparent on Davey's face and jacket.
